Resources

The ATE project is at the intersection of two spheres of inquiry.   The first concerns the role of migrants, and their remittances, in the development and well-being of the countries from which they come.  The second sphere concerns the analysis, and fostering, of economic activities that operate outside of the orthodox norms of waged labour, market exchange and capitalist production.

Here we list resources that can provide a background context for the ATE project, particularly related publications, news, practices, and institutions operating in the realm of alternative transnational economies.  This section is not meant to define or promote any one definition of ‘alternative’, but rather to demonstrate the kind of phenomena that deserves a closer look in the literatures of both alternative economies and migration and development.  Please feel free to send  us  an email with further suggestions.
